Raising Awareness for Down Syndrome

On October 7th at the Clyde City Park in Clyde Kansas, the North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society will host their 15th Annual Buddy Walk. To raise awareness each year, they hold a one-mile walk.

The North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide support and resources to individuals and families with Down syndrome. The month of October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

Shella Thoman is with the North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society and stated that 35 teams and over 700 individuals are already signed up for the event and that there is still time to register a team.

Participants are people with Down syndrome, their family and friends, teachers, coworkers, and supporters. There will be an afternoon full of games, raffle prizes, photo booths, and more.

The North Central Kansas Down Syndrome Society covers 14 counties -- Cloud, Clay, Dickinson, Ellsworth, Jewell, Lincoln, Mitchell, Osborne, Ottawa, Republic, Russell, Saline, Smith and Washington.
