Pull Out Your Denim For A Good Cause

April 27th cover yourself from head-to-toe in denim to support awareness of sexual assault

April is sexual assault awareness month and KVCO 88.3 is participating in the effort to bring light to the issue. On April 27, KVCO will be hosting Denim Day, an event that brings awareness to sexual assault simply by participants wearing denim.

Denim Day was triggered by a ruling from the Italian Supreme Court when a rape conviction was overturned because the justices believed that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she would have had to help remove them, therefore implying consent. The following day, women in Italian Parliament wore jeans in solidarity with the victim. Since then, Peace Over Violence developed Denim Day as a symbol of protest against the destructive attitudes about sexual assault.

To participate in Denim Day with KVCO, simply wear denim, such as jeans, on April 27, use #DENIMDAY on your social media postings, and visit KVCO’s table in the Student Union to learn more about sexual assault and pick up a teal ribbon. For more information, visit the official Denim Day website.
